Silbury Hill

Silbury Hill is an artificial chalk mound near Avebury which covers about 2 ha. The mound consists of chalk and glay. This Neolithic monument in Wiltshire is a pyramid containing six steps, located concentrically. The height of mound Silbury Hill is 36,9m. The barrow-pyramid in the basis has an ideal circle in diameter of 160m. Top of the pyramid is flat with a diameter of 30m.

Thus, barrow Silbury Hill, actually is a six-step pyramid with horizontally cut off top. Scientists consider that it has been made 4600–4700 years ago, i.e. about 2600 BC, when the well-known Egyptian pyramid Giza had been built.

Results of excavation have shown that Silbury Hill was not a sepulchral hill, but had some other purpose. What?
